I am personally saddened to hear that Lewis Love passed away on January 23, 2013. He was a science teacher at both North and South for 44 years and a teacher for 13 years outside of Great Neck. He was one of my favorite memories from GNS. He not only taught science, but how to treat others.

Barry Butner, GNS 1964, passed away on Nov. 22, 2010.

Great Neck North Class of 1958

Dick Kalt - July 19, 2000.

A graduate of Bucknell University, Dick subsequently studied medicine and received his MD from the University of Paris in 1971. After a residency in the New York area, he relocated with wife Ursula and sons Stefan and Brian to Florida in 1974. A board-certified practitioner of Internal Medicine, Dick lived in Boca Raton and practiced in Boynton Beach. He was known as a physician who was a superb diagnostician, and who connected deeply with his patients. Multiple sclerosis forced Dick to retire from his clinical practice prematurely, but he continued his work in medicine. Accomplishments in drug-free pain management techniques benefitted many other MS sufferers. Diagnosed with cancer in 1999, Dick passed away on July 19, 2000, leaving family, friends and patients saddened by the loss. He retained his wonderful sense of humor to the end, and will always be remembered fondly by the many people he touched.

My friend Reina Baum who graduated in 1960 passed away last June. Even though she didn’t make it to her 50th reunion, we had met in Junior High and celebrated our 50 years of knowing each other in 2005. Shortly after our celebration, she was diagnosed with cancer and put up a great fight.

He left a wife, Jane Samuels Gitlin, of 30 years, and a daughter Nikki Renee Gitlin Kranzler. He would have loved knowing that he became a grandfather of a baby boy, Alex Buz Kranzler this past January, 2005. Buz lived in Roslyn. - Sue Gitlin Cherlin

Sheridan Gayer writes: Both Jason Butler and Shirin Shakir passed away. Shirin was March, 31 2006 and Jason was within a year of our graduation, but I'm not certain exactly when as I was out of the country. I apologize for not having exact dates, but I'm sure there are others who might. I tried looking up an obituary online but was unable to find one. I'm nearly certain it was the fall or winter of '99 based on where I was when I heard the news.
